An oceanfront property with private stairs to one of the most popular surfing destinations in La Jolla, California, hit the market Tuesday for $45 million, Mansion Global has learned.
If it sells for anywhere close to its asking price, it will be the most expensive sale in the ZIP code, according to listing agents Josh and
Matt Altman
of Douglas Elliman. It’s currently priced at about $20 million more than the most recent record sale, a $24.7 million waterfront home that sold in 2020.
The seven-bedroom, eight bathroom residence is located on a double lot that’s about 1.4 acres, which is “unheard of” for waterfront properties in the region, according to listing agent Matt Altman of Douglas Elliman. He shares the listing with his brother and business partner,
Josh Altman.

“It sits on a double lot on the water in La Jolla, and it’s the largest on the water south of La Jolla Farms,” Matt Altman said, referring to the upscale neighborhood sometimes known as simply the Farms. “There’s a stairway down to the Windansea Beach and it sits above the Big Rock surf spot.”
Not only does the property have direct beach access, it brings the beach back home. The zero-edge pool is surrounded by sand imported from the Bahamas, the agents noted. The pool area also has a fire pit and spa, plus a swim-up bar and two beach entrances, according to the listing.

The 6,834-square-foot, single-level home is extremely private, and cannot be seen from the street.
“When you walk into it, it’s like walking into a fantasy,” Matt Altman continued. “You go over a bridge and past the insane pool and then see the most beautiful 180-degree views of the ocean.”
The home also boasts exposed beams, hardwood floors and retractable walls that lead to outdoor space, according to the listing. The main living area has an open layout with living and dining areas, while the eat-in kitchen boasts a suite of top-of-the-line appliances.

The primary bedroom offers a sitting area, a fireplace, a private patio and a bathroom with a soaking tub with ocean views, listing photos show. There are also two private guest suites.
Four fire pits can be found on the property, as well as several seating areas surrounded by native plantings. There are two garages for up to seven vehicles.
The home last sold for $8.9 million in 2000, according to public records. The sellers were not available for comment.
